(1.School of Physical Education,Fujian Normal University,Fuzhou 350007,China;2.Department of Physical Education,Xianyang Normal Institute,Xianyang 712000,China) Abstract: Having analyzed the reasons for, measures taken by and effects of the US government to promote student fitness since the 1950s, the author concluded that the experiences of the US government to promote student fitness mainly include the followings: the government has regarded such a job highly and stuck to it over a long period of time; the government has established an efficient leadership organization; the government has actively cooperated with all walks of life in the society; the government has carried out comprehensive promotion; the government has showered attention on scientific researches; the government has generously rewarded advanced and typical organi-zations.
