(1.Department of Physical Education,South China University of Technology, Guangzhou 510641,China;2.Department of Physical Education,Maoming Institute,Maoming 525000,China) Abstract: By comparing the structures of educational background levels and professional positions (called positions for short) between PE teachers and part of teachers in other branches of learning in 20 universities and colleges in Guangdong province, the authors revealed the following findings: The levels of educational backgrounds of PE teachers are generally low, the percentage of teachers with a master degree or higher is seriously on the low side,the structure of educational backgrounds is not rational enough; in addition,comparing the position structure of PE teachers with that of teachers in other branches of learning in the same university or college, the percentage of PE teachers with an advanced position is on the low side; these conditions have,to a certain extend,restricted the development of PE teaching in universities and colleges,and are not in favor of the development of higher educations. The authors pointed out that it is important to solve these problems for current construction of PE teacher's team,and put forward 6 hypotheses to raise the levels of educational backgrounds as well as the percentage of advanced positions in respect to PE teachers.
