(Department of Physical Education, Zhengzhou Industry Institute, Zhengzhou 450003, China)Abstract: By means of mental health test (MHT), the author investigated the mental health of 5,812 students in 12 schools (Classes 4-6 in elementary schools, junior high schools and high schools) in Henan province, and revealed the following findings: Among these students, 3.8% of them had a high level of anxiety, 9.02% of them had a self-blaming tendency (the highest rate in the test table), and 8.66% of them had an anxiety tendency towards others (the second highest rate in the test table); the mental health level of rural students was worse than that of urban students, while the mental anxiety level of females students was higher than that of males students. The authors offered the following suggestions: In the process of physical education teaching, sports events that can abate or eliminate these factors, such as cooperative learning and game playing, should be developed specifically for tackling these serious problems; physical education teachers should correctly guide the students with mental disorder; training for rural physical education teachers should be strengthened, so that they can communicate with the students in a better way and apply physical education means to alleviate the mental disorder of the students; in the process of physical education teaching, more attention should be paid to the education of female student, and appropriate language and sports events should be selected to boost the mental health of female students.
