| （1.College of Physical Education，Jimei University，Xiamen 361021，China；2.Xiamen Sports School，Xiamen 361012，China；3.Fujian Sports School，Fuzhou 350003，China） Abstract: The origin of folk sports organizations in Taiwan is closely related to the activities of local temples, i.e. mutual combination of Buddhist and Taoist activities.The organizations are mainly named as a society, hall, associa-tion or museum, and presented as a comprehensive civilian group. Whenever local temples perform such activities as sacrificial ritual and celebration, folk sports become an indispensable important performance. The activities of folk sports organizations in Taiwan show different function as the society transforms, developing from the spirit and human being entertaining function, to the defending and military function, and the culture resisting function, and then back to the spirit and human being entertaining function, and to the healthy and entertaining sightseeing func-tion and fitness function as well as sports culture education function, and boosting folk sports communication be-tween Fujian and Taiwan.
