(Department of Physical Education,Jiangxi Normal University,Nanchang 330027,China) Abstract: The authors used such five measurements as subjective physical health, physical attraction, physical value sense, general self-respect and general life satisfaction sense as a research tool to survey 246 middle aged and elderly persons, and revealed the following findings: the main effect of exercise level on such dependent variables as physical value, general self-respect and life satisfaction sense is very significant; exercise form and weekly exer-cise frequency have no significant main effect on all the dependent variables; in terms of such dependent variables as physical sense and general self-respect, there is a significant interaction between exercise level and exercise time each time; there is a significant difference in the scores of all the tested variables between those people who do not exercise and those people who exercise more than three times a week; physical exercise has direct as well as indi-rectly effects on the self-respect and life satisfaction sense of the middle age and the elder.
