| （School of Physical Education，Northwest Normal University，Lanzhou 730070，China） Abstract: The physical education ideology of Mr. YUAN Dun-li can be interpreted from various perspectives: from the perspective of physical education, physical education is an education by means of physical activities, while physical exercises are actually the behaviors of the “whole body”; for the perspective of the relation between sport and health, “although physical education is good for health, its primary goal is not health any more”; from the per-spective of the disciplinary nature of physical education, physical education is the best discipline for cultivating comprehensively developed healthy personality. The modern value of Mr. YUAN’s sports view mainly embodies the followings: capacity cultivation and capability enhancement are equally important; timely progress should be made in tradition inheritance and innovation development; theoretical research and practical operation should be estab-lished on a solid ground.
