(School of Sports and Training,Shanghai Sport University,Shanghai 200438,China) Abstract: The authors compared backup talent cultivation mechanisms of professional football clubs in China and foreign countries, and revealed the following findings: there is a big difference in such mechanisms between profes-sional football clubs in China and foreign countries – foreign clubs have multiple ways for backup talent selection, more scientific training mechanisms, more diversified competition types, more game times, genuinely strengthened cultural education for young players, and multiple ways out for players, while clubs in China have fewer ways for player selection, less scientific training, fewer competition types, fewer game times, insufficient concern about cul-tural education for players, fewer ways out for players to choose from, and these problems have restricted the qual-ity of backup talent cultivation carried out by profession football clubs in China.
