(School of Physical Education and Health,East China Hormal University,Shanghai 200241,China) Abstract: By means of literature study, the author dissected the double assurance system of professional standards for physical education teachers in Japan (general standards established by the Ministry of Education and specific standards established by laws for the physical education discipline) and “twin major” curriculum standards (disci-plinary major and educational major), and revealed the following characteristics of the dynastic development of the existing standards: they are vigorously supported by external environments and systems, highlight the professional nature of the teachers’ occupation, value the cultivation of actual abilities, and are highly operational. These stan-dards reflect the government’s urgent wish to popularize standards. The precise physical education teacher cultiva-tion system in Japan has helpful inspirations for establishing professional standards for physical education teachers in China, which are in conformity with the time spirit, and enable the teachers to acquire complex knowledge and skills and self-development awareness, and to fulfill their career missions.
