(Deparment of Physical Educalion,Dalian Maritime University,Dalian 116026,China) Abstract: By means of such research methods as questionnaire survey, literature data acquisition and mathematical statistic analysis, the authors investigated and analyzed the current state of physical education teaching for the navi-gation major in common institutes of higher learning in China, probed into its characteristics and reform, pointed out that content and mode undiversified teaching is unable to effectively arouse student’s initiative for self exercis-ing. Based on their study, and by referring to the setup of physical education curriculum in major institutes of navi-gation in the United States, the authors put forward the following opinions in an action specific way: physical edu-cation teaching for the navigation major must be combined with the characteristics and requirements of marine oc-cupations; physical education teaching contents suitable for onboard exercising should be added accordingly.
