| （School of Physical Education，Xinjiang Normal University，Urumqi 830054，China） Abstract: By applying the transition theory in cultural anthropology, the authors analyzed the inheritance and tran-sition of Dawaz – a traditional Uigurian sports event, and concluded that governmental guidance, protection of nonmaterial cultural heritages, efforts of Dawaz artists, and market economy needs, have played an important role in the inheritance and transition of Uigurian Dawaz, but the protection, promotion and education of primitive arts should be further strengthened, and the support and cooperation of other cities and provinces are needed.
