| （School of Physical Education，Liaoning Normal University，Dalian 116029，China） Abstract: For the constantly developing forms of competitive sports in China and the need of China for preparing for the London Olympic Games, general secretary HU Jin-tao put forward such a working objective as to turn China from a big sports country into a powerful sports country. This objective is the scientific orientation for the sport un-dertaking in China to implement the scientific development view and face the future, and the guidance for the reno-vation and reevaluation of the strategic objectives, conceptions and implementation mechanism of the future devel-opment of competitive sports. Under such a background, for the development of competitive sports, we should es-tablish the strategic conception of people orientated, comprehensively harmonized and sustainable development; in terms of implementation mechanism, we should continue to maintain and uplift the development level, stick to and perfect the “nationwide system”, and let competitive sports develop harmoniously with mass sport, get on the track of sport technological innovation, and blend into the international sport community and world sport system.
