| （Research Institute of Sport Science，Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology，Nanjing 210044，China） Abstract: The author reviewed documents regarding the selection of physical education contents by new China, and put forward the following opinions after having retrospected based on his review: the relation between optional contents and required contents was not well handled at all historical stages of new China; unilaterally emphasizing optional contents or required contents is inadvisable; only by appropriately combining both contents can the com-prehensive and primary development of students be boosted.
