(1.School of Physical Educaltion,Shaoguan University,Shaoguan 512005,China;2.Department of Physical Education,Guilin University of Electronic Technology,Guilin 541004,China) Abstract: By randomly selecting 600 rural residents from 12 villages in 6 peasant fitness project experiment towns, coupled with other investigation means such as expert interview, the authors carried out a field investigation on the effects of the implementation of the peasant fitness project in Guangdong province, and revealed the following findings: the implementation of the peasant fitness project in Guangdong province produced positive effects on peasant sports, and the sports value view of peasants in the experiment villages became healthier and more positive than ever; the degree of organization of sports activity participation was ever increasingly enhanced; the expectation for sports activity participation was significantly intensified, the sports population was 2.8% higher than the average level nationwide; the physical health level of the peasants was significantly promoted. However, there are the fol-lowing restraining factors as well: some local leaders did not give sufficient attention and support to the construction of the peasant fitness project; the sports awareness of the peasants was kind of faint; related policies and legislations were not adequately completed; the construction of playgrounds and facilities for peasant sports needed to be im-proved; there was a lack of social sports instructors; there was a shortage of sports funds.
