Abstract: The author studied dilemmas faced by the cultivation of social sports professionals in institutes of higher learning, and pointed out that their root causes are the disconnection between education and practice, and between specialty and career. Career must be considered as the fundamental orientation for the cultivation of professionals. From the perspective of career specific cultivation, the author examined the Guiding Professional Code for the Regular Social Sports Specialty in Institutes of Higher Learning in China, and put forward the following opinions: the cultivation objective orientation is accurate; for now it is not easy to use the sports social job orientation for ca-reer orientated cultivation; the differences in cultivation specifications between the Code and the Professional Code for the Regular Physical Education Specialty in Common Institutes of Higher Learning are not significant; there is a lack of criterion explanations for curriculum setup, and no sufficient attention has been paid to sports skills; the cur-riculum set up in a multi-direction and multi-end way is not conducive to the students’ knowledge mastering and ability cultivating, thus affecting their academic performance and employment. The author thought that profession-alized cultivation of social sports professionals should base mainly on the promotion of sports skills, and that in terms of specific cultivation specifications, the form of gradually progressing should be adopted to set forth speci-fied requirements for the students.
