(Law School,Xiangtan University,Xiangtan 411105,China) Abstract: The Ad Hoc Division established by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games arbitrated totally 4 cases, all of which involved with athlete’s competition qualification. In these cases, what the Ad Hoc Division adopted for ambiguous rules for competition qualification was the principle of strict literal interpreta-tion; the Ad Hoc Division examined the procedure to make the decision on competition qualification, and specified that it has no right to directly revise competition qualification clauses established by the International Federation of Single Sports Events. The practice of arbitration for sport in the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games has established a solid foundation for settling disputes about competition qualification for the Olympic Games in the future.
