(School of Physical Education,Yangzhou University,Yangzhou 225009,China) Abstract: The authors studied the contents of the health and physical education curriculum in Taiwan since the 1950s. Before the 1990s, there were more competition related contents; in the late 1990s, contents closely related to leisure, entertainment and daily life increased. At the current stage of compulsory education in Taiwan, the contents of the health and physical education curriculum are divided mainly into 7 learning topics and 3 learning stages. At the current stage of compulsory education in Taiwan, the contents of the health and physical education curriculum meet the need for the comprehensive development of students, enabling physical education to return to the nature of education of physical activities.
