| （School of Physical Education，Liaoning Normal University，Dalian 116029，China） Abstract: From the academic viewpoints of XIE Tao and Senet, the authors drew forth discussions about the “na-tionwide system” of competitive sports in China, and put forward the following opinions via information collection and analysis: the “nationwide system” of competitive sports in China is a product produced under special economic conditions at the early stage of the establishment of China, had once played a great role in promoting competitive sports; with the development of times, people are more and more skeptical of the rationality of existence of the “na-tionwide system”, since its bad sides have obviously restricted the development of mass sports and scholastic physical education, even become the bottlenecks of the development of competitive sports itself. At the end, the au-thors drew the following conclusions: the reform of the competitive sports system in China must follow the trends of social development and times advancement, meet national conditions and social development situations; when the system is no longer able to create due values and benefits, the construction and coexistence of multiple systems be-come historically inevitable.
