(1.School of Physical Education,South China Normal University,Guangzhou 510006,China;2.Guangdong Provincial Research Institute of Sports Science,Guangzhou 510663,China) Abstract: By utilizing 33 974 ages 20-29 adult samples taken in Guangdong National Fitness Survey in 2005, and by using the percentile method, the authors established standards for evaluating physical makings of adults in Guangdong, divided BMI into 15 classes by basing the standard on 1 unit, studied the characteristics of the changing of adult’s physical makings with BMI, and revealed the following findings: the changing of physical makings with BMI shows a significant gender difference; the changing of comprehensive physical makings with BMI can be di-vided into 3 stages, but males and females have different change division points; except grip power and back power, other physical making indexes usually have a deterioration division point when BMI is greater than 20 or 21, but various indexes of males and females have different deterioration amplitudes. In the authors’ opinions, the BMI classification method that bases the standard on 1 unit is a method that can better reflect the characteristics of the changing of adult’s physical makings with BMI.
