Based on the process of rising of competitive sports in Japan, the authors divided the process roughly into 3 periods. In such 3 periods, Japanese national social mentality and political needs had distinc-tive characteristics. Lastly, based on the characteristics of Japanese national social mentality and political needs, the author derived the following 3 inspirations: for the development of competitive sports in China, we should consider national social mentality and political needs in different periods; the thoughts of different groups of people about competitive sports are separated and diversified; we must create a “Chinese mode”.
