(School of Physical Education,Henan University,Kaifeng 475001,China) Abstract: Physical education teacher education in new China showed distinctive stage specific characteristics: at the first stage (1949~1990), “training” was emphasized, the increase of the number of physical education teachers was focused on; at the second stage (1991~2008), “learning” was emphasized, the enhancement of the quality of physical education teachers was focused on; at the third stage (2009 to now), “developing” was emphasized, the professional development of physical education teachers was focused on. Physical education teacher education based on development view has highlighted the subject status of physical education teachers in education practice. Routinized education practice based on theory infiltration is the future trend of development of physical education teacher education.
