| （1.Department of Physical Education，Guangdong University of Finance，Guangzhou 510521，China；2.Department of Physical Education，Guangdong University of Foreign Studies，Guangzhou 510420，China） Abstract: The authors analyzed social causes for the formation and development of greenway sports represented by the Pearl River Delta region, and put forward the following opinions: as a product produced under such a new social conception and new social development mode as “happy Guangdong”, greenway sports is the reflection of enhance-ment of people’s living quality and satisfaction of people’s living needs; it spreads such governing conceptions of the government as changing the mode of development and sticking to scientific development by basing the starting point on happy life, the entry point on individual needs, the appeal point on personality characteristics, and the respect point ecological value; it carries people’s happiness index and life ideal; it is the specific practice of building happy Guang-dong, and also a marker pole indicating the development of nationwide fitness in the new period.
