| （School of Physical Education，Harbin Normal University，Harbin 150080，China） Abstract: Sparta was a city-state, having an important status in the history of Greece, and providing a thinking clue for examining the birth of Greek sport. The political reform of Lycurgus made sport become the totality of Spartan educa-tion, enabled such a reform measure as soldier training to exist in the form of law. Examining Spartan sport, must probed into the existence of sports ideology from such spiritual qualities as honor, bravery, toughness and discipline. The sports ideology of Spartans was to cultivate and shape people having a perfect body, and to prove that people’s ra-tional thinking was born in wild rules. Spartan sport is an exception, also an important constituent part of Greek sport; its ideology is worthy of exploration and tracing.
