(1.Wushu Department,Chengdu Sport University,Chengdu 610041,China;2.North Sichuan Medical College,Nanchong 637000,China) Abstract: By means of field survey, and by referring to the cultural memory and identity theory in cultural anthropology, the authors studied the social and cultural functions of such a festive sport as the Torch Festival celebrated in the Liangshan Yi national autonomous prefecture, and revealed the following findings: local festive sports can not only promote commu-nication and cultural inheritance inside an ethnic group, but also produce positive influence on communication and cultural identity between ethnic groups; analyzing the implicit mechanism of festive sports, which affects the collective memory and national cultural identity of ethnic groups, enables us to profoundly and comprehensively examine and reveal the so-cial existence significance of festive sports and their communication and interaction relationships with social culture.
