(School of Physical Education,Liaoning Normal University,Dalian 116029,China) Abstract: In 1917, MAO Ze-dong mentioned “the truth of sport” for the first time in his article titled Sports Re-search, published in the New Youth magazine, which emphasized that the essence of sport is to make the human body stronger and healthier, but not to teach skills. Up to this day, although sports form and content have changed a lot, its essence remains unchanged. In the 1970s and 1980s, LIN Xiao-feng, a contemporary scholar, put forward the concept of “true sport”; his sport ideology inherited and deepened “the true of sport” by MAO Ze-dong, theorized and scientized true sport. Under the background of Chinese sport in the new period, the ideological connotation of true sport will boost the sustainable healthy development of sports undertakings of China, and play an irreplaceable role in guiding the organic combination of education and sport.
