| （1.School of Education，Xi’an University of Arts and Science，Xi’an 710065，China；2.Department of Physical Education，Xi’an University of Science and Technology，Xi’an 710054，China) Abstract: Chang’an of the Tang dynasty and Kaifeng of the Song dynasty were the typical representatives of brilliant development of urban civilization in feudal society in China; the trend of opening and tolerating development presented in sports in the Tang dynasty was the embodiment of opening public atmosphere and multi-cultural communication in the Tang dynasty, while in the Song dynasty, economic and cultural prosperity promoted urban material and spiritual consumption, people advocated easygoing, joyful leisure life. In the Tang dynasty, capital sports inherited legacies left by the previous Han dynasty, people were erudite, explorative, innovative and nonconformist; in the following Song dynasty, capital sports carried on sports passed on by the Han and Tang dynasties, making breakthroughs, becoming prosperous gradually, inspiring following generations. The historical track of development and evolution of capital sports in the Tang and Song dynasties not only witnesses the brilliance of ancient sports culture of China, but also has a lot of helpful enlightenment and reference to studying the development of modern urban sports culture.
