| （Department of Physical Education，Tongling University，Tongling 244000，China) Abstract: System reform and improvement have different meanings; there are the trends of reform and improve-ment in the process of development of the sports system in China today. The author analyzed important documents and regulations published by China in the sports area in recent years, and found that descriptions about sports sys-tem reform objectives were similar and repeated to a great extent, which indicated that sports system reform in China over the years had a tough task and low efficiency; the author also further examined the system environment and driving power for system improvement in China, pointed out that due to the existence of sports vested interests and developmentalism thoughts, improvement has become one of the important ways to develop the sports system in China today, but people tend to equate “improvement” with “reform”.
