(1.School of Physical Education,South China Normal University,Guangzhou 510006,China;2.Department of Physical Education,Guangdong Pharmaceutical University,Guangzhou 510006,China) Abstract: In order to deepen the understanding of the essence of school physical education, and to probe into the pat-tern of development of school physical education, the author compared the development of school physical education in mainland China and Taiwan, and revealed the following findings: school physical education in the two regions had the same origin, i.e. Japanese school physical education; the tracks of development of school physical education in the two regions are different: the track of development of school physical education in mainland China is more meandering and repetitive, while the track of development of school physical education in Taiwan is smoother; under the background of internationalization, the directions of development of school physical education in the two regions tend to become iden-tical; it can be said that the courses of overall development of school physical education in the two regions are now heading toward the same destination from different tracks, which is quite meaningful.
