(School of Sports Science,Fujian Normal University,Fuzhou 350117,China) Abstract: The authors explored the Olympic practice and sports ideology of educator Carl Diem, the most influen-tial sports activist in Germany in the 20th century, and revealed the following findings: Carl Diem established the organizational framework and ideological foundation of the Olympic enterprise of Germany, created ceremonies such as Olympic torch relay, and started international Olympic education enterprise; his sports ideology contained complicated facets of patriotism and internationalism, humanistic feelings in which aesthetics is supreme, and sports education ideology in which moral is the first priority; all his life he followed Coubertin’s ideal; although he was in-fluenced by Nazi politics, he kept making progress in maintaining independent and benign sports governance; the Olympic practice and sports ideology of Carl Diem shined with epochal wisdom and brilliance all the time.
