(College of Physical Education and Health & Research Base of Physical Education and Teaching in Shanghai “Lide Shuren” Key Research Base of Humanity and Social Science,East China Normal University,Shanghai 200241,China) Abstract: In order to understand the United State’s experience in the construction of physical education major, and to provide inspirations to the development of physical education major in China, the authors carried out an in-depth analysis on physical education major at the University of South Carolina (USC) in the United States in terms of talent cultivation objectives, curriculum setup, teacher team construction, student cultivation etc, and revealed the following findings: the talent cultivation objectives of physical education major at USC are comprehensive and action specific; USC values the study of general education courses and the close connection between course and teacher qualification certificate, and emphasizes the application of student physical education teaching methods; USC has a superior teacher team, widely covered research areas, a strict teacher employment system, and jobs done from multiple perspectives; USC values student practice, complies with a normative teacher qualification certification system. Inspirations to physical education major in China are as follows: further perfect teacher qualification certification and staging system; focus on the comprehensiveness and rationality of curriculum setup; value the cultivation of student teaching practice ability and the construction of a high performance physical education major teacher team.
