| （1.Institute of Guizhou Advanced Study of Ethnology and Anthropology，Guiyang 550018，China；2.School of Physical Education，Guizhou Normal College，Guiyang 550018，China；3.Department of Academic Affairs，Zhaoqing University，Zhaoqing 526000，China) Abstract: By applying symbolic anthropological theory, ethnic group theory and semiotic theory, via solid field in-vestigation, the authors explored cultural symbols in China Miaoquan, analyzed their symbolic meanings and ethnic group identity function, concluded that Chi-you, Qishou courtesy, cow and hook knife, and “36 offensive techniques and 72 defensive techniques”, are the cultural symbols of Chinese Miaoquan, having specific symbolic meanings; in the performance and inheritance domain of China Miaoquan, they arouse the historical and collective memories of the Miao ethnic group, promote and enhance Miao nationality’s ethnic group identity. Exploring the cultural sym-bols and ethnic group identity of Chinese Miaoquan is conducive to the overseas spreading and transnational sports communication of Chinese Miaoquan.
