| （School of Physical Education，Central China Normal University，Wuhan 430079，China) Abstract: From the perspective of cultural anthropology, the authors probed into the process of baseball localization in Japan in term of longitudinal historical development and in such three transversal cultural dimensions as language dimension, religion dimension and nation dimension, and on such a basis, analyzed the mechanism of traditional Japanese culture meeting foreign culture, and revealed the following findings: “wasei-eigo” is the important repre-sentation of baseball localization in Japan; “quasi religious ritual” is the functional embodiment of baseball localiza-tion in Japan; “yakyuu philosophy” is the cultural root of baseball localization in Japan.
