(School of Physical Education,South China Normal University,Guangzhou 510006,China) Abstract: By applying Bourdieu’s symbol capital theory, the authors analyzed the formation and development of “sports stars”, and drew the following conclusions: “sports stars” are not only a group designation symbol, but also a kind of symbol capital; the symbol capital of “sports stars” forms in the process of authoritative recognition by sports organizations, publicity by mass media and symbol consumption by sports fans, exerting its value tension by means of capital transformation and power softening, capital assessment and value measurement, capital cashing and value increment, capital production and industrial operation, etc; subject to the double temptation of capital and power, symbol capital’s continuous accumulation becomes athletes’ value appeal, continuously improving competi-tive strength, constantly trying field crossing, actively participating in social welfare, complying with morals, as well as obeying laws and disciplines, are the main paths for the accumulation of the symbol capital of “sports stars”.
