(School of Humanities,Jiangnan University,Wuxi 214122,China) Abstract: The international community is ever increasingly affirming schools’ important function in promoting citizens’ health literacy, and sparing no effort in including health education curriculum reform as a part of national health education strategies, specifying that it is significant to promote students’ health literacy by using the school health education curriculum as the medium. At present, the practice of health education curriculum in elementary and middle schools worldwide is to in-tegrate curriculum objectives mainly according to the realistic needs of social development and the development patterns of students’ physical and mental characteristics, to form health education curriculum contents with different characteristics, to implement flexible and diversified health courses, and to develop miscellaneous course evaluation. Elementary and middle school health education curriculum development in China needs the vigorous support of the governments at all levels, to strive to blend health literacy into the physical and health education curriculum, to establish and perfect professionalized health education teacher cultivation, and to build a school health education supporting system with multiparty cooperation.
