(1.School of Physical Education,Soochow University,Suzhou 215021,China;2.Lishui Experimental School,Lishui 323000,China) Abstract: Continuously expanding sports population, guiding national physical strength improvement, and building a healthy life atmosphere, are the original intentions for school sports ground opening in Japan, the authors dissected its ground development and management characteristics, hoping to improve Chinese school sports ground quality and to cultivate the public’s lifelong sports awareness. The authors revealed the following findings: Japanese school grounds are relatively high quality, cultivating sports youth leagues, school sports departments and sports clubs by opening to the outside world; establishing operating and subsidizing regulations and policies; remodeling venue fa-cilities by using designs based mainly on function practicability; diversified operating modes, changing from “sim-ple opening” to “joint utilization”; valuing vacation utilization, improving students’ comprehensive sports abilities and vacation quality; flexibly utilizing teenager education facilities to develop nature experience activities, making up traditional physical education deficiencies. Inspirations from Japan’s experience to China: strengthen school land planning in order to boost ground quality improvement; establish venue repair/remodeling ratings; strengthen edu-cation administration department participating in venue management; implement vacation sports, guide the chang-ing of “sports for examination” into “sports for joy”; flexibly utilize various sports venue resources, innovate on off-campus sports development modes.
