(1.School of Physical Education，Sichuang Normal University，Chengdu 610101，China；2.College of Marxist，Chengdu Sport University，Chengdu 610041，China) Abstract: Based on cognitive linguistics, the authors analyzed the characteristics and formation of the concept of sport, probed into the reasons and mechanism for the existence of controversy about the concept of sport, and re-vealed the following findings: the cognition of the concept of sport was established in unconscious mental experi-ence, formed by the combining of subjective experience and judgment perception experience by the metaphor sys-tem that decides the way of survival, while seeking the original domain of the concept of sport in the metaphor sys-tem is the key to the study of the concept of sport. Based on the later Ludwig Wittgenstein’s theory about the “fam-ily resemblance” of daily languages, via the method of logic structural illustration comparison, the authors con-cluded that the Chinese word “tiyu” (sport) was highly possibly formed in the linguistic metaphor mechanism that bases on clan as the original domain.
