Abstract: What are behind Chinese scholars’ disputes about the concept of sport are the real reflections of sport schol-ars’ thinking changes at different stages. Since the reform opening, with ideological emancipation and human subjectiv-ity being highlighted, Chinese sport scholars started to transcend the traditional thinking of “man and nature unity”, and to replace it with the “subject-object” thinking mode. In this process, sports scholars’ subjective thinking changed from perceptual to rational, and they perfect the concept of sport step by step. At this stage, sport scholars realize the defects of the “subject-object” thinking mode, and that the concept of sport cannot meet our need for sport cognition, so they take sport out of its abstract concept, and put it back to the reality life; on the basis of “subject-object” epistemology, reestablishing a new thinking mode becomes the main direction at present. In western contemporary philosophy, exis-tentialist philosophy represented by Heidegger provides us with a new thinking mode: “people are in the world”. The concept of sport is transcended from the answer for “what is sport” to “how sport is presented”. The authors rethought our way of expression of sport, starting with “the body” in sports behaviors.
