Abstract: Based on Shanghai junior middle school students as the research object, the authors investigated the levels of urban junior middle school students’ extracurricular physical activities, and explored the factors that affect extracur-ricular physical activities, and revealed the following findings: the junior middle school students averagely carried out 34.7 minutes of medium high intensity physical activities a day, the levels of extracurricular physical activities of vari-ous intensities of the boy students were all higher than those of the girl students; with the increase of grade, the levels of extracurricular physical activities decreased to different extents; the levels of extracurricular physical activities of vari-ous intensities on school days were all much higher than those on weekends; the levels of extracurricular physical ac-tivities of various intensities on school days without a physical education class were slightly higher than those on physical education class days; 4 common factors were extracted from extracurricular physical activity affecting factors: subjectivity and organization, school support, family support, environment and skill, in which the subjectivity and or-ganization factor has a significant effect on high or medium high intensity extracurricular physical activities, the school support factor has no significant effect on various intensities, the family support factor has a significant effect on low or high intensity extracurricular physical activities, the environment and skill factor has a significant effect on low, me-dium, high or medium high intensity extracurricular physical activities, is the factor in the 4 common factors that has the greatest effect on junior middle school students’ extracurricular physical activities.
