(School of Physical Education and Humanity,Nanjing Sport Institute,Nanjing 210014,China) Abstract: Using the methods of literature, and logical analysis to review and summarize the background process of the controversy in the specialized physical education class, so as to provide some enlightenment for the development of contemporary specialized physical education class and the teaching of “class system”. The historical focus of the debate mainly revolves around: the contradiction between the improvement of students' special skills and the simultaneous development of physical fitness; the feasibility of the opening condition;transferability of students' specific interests; the rationality of opening semesters; and the competitive nature of teaching content. The value of the era of this debate lies in: arousing the understanding of the "intrinsic characteristics" of special physical education in the academic world; further consolidating the guiding ideology of "promoting the development of students' personality"; helping to distinguish the relationship between "technical teaching" and "enhancing physical fitness"; it helps to avoid the tendency of teaching content to further move towards "competitiveness". In the future, the development of special physical education courses should meet the needs of students’ personality development, construct an integrated "optional class system" teaching system; grasping the main line of "sports skills" teaching, and giving play to the "holistic" education benefits of special physical education courses; the role of teaching is to help students enjoy the fun of sports; improving the professional quality of physical education teachers, and to promote the "connotative" development of specialized physical education courses.
