Abstract: Sustainable development, as the fundamental concept of global sports development, has increasingly attracted the attention from all countries and regions. FIFA and the hostQatarjointly promulgated the "2022 Qatar World Cup Sustainable Development Strategy" (hereinafter referred to as the "Strategy"). Using the methods of literature and logical analysis, this paper discuss the background, content, characteristics of the Strategy and its implications for the sustainable development strategy of China's large-scale sports events. The results show that the content of the Strategy is closely around the five pillars of human rights, society, economy, environment and governance, and also covers 22 goals of sustainable development commitments. The Strategy has the following characteristics: docking with Qatar's national strategy and closely integrating the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the United Nations; paying attention to the co-construction and co-governance of multiple subjects, and negotiate to promote the implementation of the strategy; following the stakeholder consultation mechanism to give priority to the most important areas and matters; attaching great importance to human rights and fully embody the people-oriented value concept in all aspects; and paying attention to the evaluation and supervision of strategic progress to ensure the efficient and smooth implementation of the strategy. The enlightenment to the sustainable development strategy of China's large-scale sports events: attaching importance to the cultivation of sustainable development awareness, and enhancing the initiative and initiative of the formulation of sustainable development strategy; Closely connecting with the national macro development strategy and actively responding to the 2030 sustainable development goal of the United Nations; improving the mechanism of collaborative participation and dialogue among stakeholders, and promoting the consultation and co-construction of multiple subjects; respecting and protecting human rights in all aspects and striving for achieving people-centred comprehensive development; and establishing and improving the progress assessment, supervision and accountability mechanism so as to ensure the implementation of the strategy.
