(Education Development Center,South China Normal University,Guangzhou 510631,China) Abstract: This study selects two representative church universities, namely St. John's University and Yanjing University, as the research objectives to sort out the physical education practice process of church university during the republic ofChina, and to elaborate on the influence and historical contribution of church university to the physical education work of Chinese universities. The study finds that church university has actively explored new forms of sports on campus, inter school sports exchanges, regional sports competitions, and sports teaching practices, which have had a profound impact onChina's sports industry and the higher education. The physical education practice of church university has undergone a transformation from informal to formal, from unstructured to structured, and from autonomous activity to curriculum teaching, and also divides into three development stages: "encouraging physical education," "popularizing physical education," and "curriculum teaching".
