(Department of Physical Education,Guangdong Institute of Education,Guangzhou 510303,China) Abstract: As classified and collated according to methods specified in natural sciences, social sciences and human-istic sciences, the said system is in conformity with habitual thinking according to disciplinary principles. However, since it is classified according to macroscopic disciplinary principles, in practice it is difficult to establish branch disciplines in sport science based on such classification. School physical education, competitive sports and social sports are terms widely referred to by the sports community in China today, but they are not scientific enough, and cannot be used as standards for classifying sport discipline. From the perspective of the development of practical sciences, it is required that a change from “material concern” to “human concern” should be made to sport in China. Considering the demand for the value of human beings as the main body of sports practice, sports science can be di-vided into such branch disciplines as physical education, competitive sports and leisure physical exercises.
