| （1.Department of Physical Education，Postdoctoral Research Center，Tsinghua University，Beijing 100084，China；2.China’s Football Development Research Center，Tsinghua University，Beijing 100084，China；3.Department of Physical Education，Tsinghua University，Beijing 100084，China；4.School of Sport Science，Waseda University，Tokyo 3591192) Abstract: The authors selected Japanese university football as their research object, gave an overview of the course of development of Japanese university football, analyzed the evolution of the university football game system, in-cluding Kanto and Kansai University Football Association competitions and Japanese National University Football League games, and expatiated on the tenets and conceptions of Japanese National University Football League. The authors analyzed university football clubs in Japan based on Waseda University Football Club as a case. The authors concluded that Japanese university football is the top-level stage of campus football, historical and cultural deposit profound, a practicer of the combination of physical education and cultural education, closely connected to the pro-fessional league. Inspirations to university football development in China are as follows: dig the historical and cul-tural connotations of university football; reform current university football games; specify the responsibilities of the football association and education department for the top-level design of campus football.
